I have never played a shogi before, and this game looks great. I think it is so smart to add the green indicators of where you can move. I can definitely play this game with my family. It would have been nice to see an indicator of who's turn is next. I can't wait to play this game some more and learn about the game. Seems really interesting especially for chess fans.
The game works and look just like how I would expect it. Artistically I think you nailed it and there is no further need to improve on that. As long as the game rules work, I do not have any recommendations for improvement. To make the game more presentable, adding a main menu and end game screen will help. Since the game is playable by 2 people, it should have a screen size that fits mobile. Great work!
Everything works! It’s impressive you got the entire rule set working in Godot in just a week.
My suggestion is to consider how to add features that improve the user experience that is unique to the digital realm. Adding indications for the players turn, changing the player’s pieces shapes/colors are all considerations to take when adapting a traditional board game to a new medium.
There are a lot of different directions to take this concept! What you have here works and is solid
